Best practices for our School Parking Lot

Before and after school are always busy times of the day at schools. We anticipate that our school parking lot will also be quite busy. As we begin our work together, safety for everyone is very important. For your convenience, we have set up a map of our grounds to help you and your family plan accordingly:

We encourage all of our families to walk to our school. We are fortunate to have a beautiful town with many great walkways and trails for families to use. Walking to school also promotes healthy living for our students.

To help us establish best practices at our opening, here are some guidelines for our parking lot if you do plan to drive to our school:

  • Parents and guardians may park in the parking lot located on the east side of our school.
  • Our School has a Kiss and Ride lane available that is marked.
  • The Kiss and Ride allows you to drop your child off in the morning and then drive away.
  • Please drive slowly and safely through the Kiss and Ride areas.
  • There are two lanes beside the Kiss and Ride that are for traffic to flow through to the parking lot itself. Please do not let your child exit your vehicle in these lanes.

noparkingYou will notice that the Kiss and Ride area is signed “No Parking”. In consultation with our fire department, this has been designated as a fire zone. Therefore, there cannot be any parking in our Kiss and Ride, or car loop, at any time. Our community bylaw officers will also enforce these no parking zones as per the municipality’s bylaw policies.

If you want to walk your child to the entry areas you must park your car in the parking lot spots.

It is also very important that you do not park, or stop for extended amounts of time, in the kiss and ride area as this will cause a backlog of vehicles.

accessibleShould you require a wheelchair accessible spot, you may use one of the two spaces nearest our main entry door.

busloopOur school also has a designated bus loop at the front of our school.

  • No cars may enter the bus loop area.
  • We are expected to have a large number of buses and so it is important that the entry and exit to the loop is not blocked at any time.

Some other general reminders:

  • If you are using the kiss and ride area please pull up slowly, allow your child to exit your car and then drive away slowly.
  • Supervision begins at 7:55 a.m. at our school in the Kindergarten areas, bus loop and main yard. We strongly recommend dropping your child off ahead of the 8:05 a.m. entry bell between 7:55 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. This also helps balance the amount of traffic in our parking lot.
  • Allow yourself adequate time in the morning and afternoon to drop off and pick up your child.

We appreciate everyone’s support in keeping our streets, walkways and school ground safe.

Mr. Collins

We have developed our school day procedures based on our Board’s Safe Welcome Program procedure. For the safety of our students, all visitors to our building are reminded of the following:

Visitors, including parents/guardians, volunteers and community members shall:
• adhere to the Safe Welcome Program;
• understand and reinforce the importance of school safety and the protocol for entering the school;
• not prop open or unlock external doors as an entry or re-entry method for any reason, unless assigned by the principal;
• enter the school through the main entrance in accordance with the school-level protocol; and
• report to the main office after being granted access to the school.

Before School

For the first day of school, staff who will work with Senior Kindergarten aged children will meet families at the entry area at the south end of the fenced kindergarten area. Parents of Junior Kindergarten aged students are to attend at the designated time in the letter mailed to your family this summer. For children attending from 8:10-9:50 families may also visit the table. For all other times, please visit our school office.

Staff who teach grades 1-3 will be at the back of the school to meet families and pick up students. Starting at 7:55 a.m., we will have tables set up by grade with staff to direct student to their homeroom teacher for the year. Class lists cannot be posted publicly due to privacy laws. As such, Tuesday September 5, 2017 will be the first opportunity to meet your child’s teacher for this year.

If it is raining, we will meet in our gym.

From September 7, 2017 onward – Students can begin lining up at their entry door at 8:05 a.m. Therefore, we recommend dropping off your child starting at 7:55 a.m.. Here is a map of our school grounds outlining the entry door locations for students:

Copy of staffmapp

As per our board’s procedure, we ask parents and guardians to say goodbye to their children outside at their entry doors. For Kindergarten students, we ask parents to walk their child to the gates where staff will meet them for entry to the school. During the instructional day, we ask all parents and guardians to use our front door and sign in at our school office.

Lunch Please indicate if your child is staying for lunch or going home for lunch on the Book of Forms sheet that will be sent home during the first week of school.

If you are picking your child up for lunch, we ask that you sign in at our school office at noon.

Children staying at our school for lunch will have time to eat and then time outside.

Students will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m. It is very helpful for us if you can provide a note for the first day indicating how your child is getting home at the end of the day (i.e Before and After Care program, picked up by an adult or older sibling, or taking the school bus).

Children attending our Before and After Care program will proceed directly to their designated classrooms at 2:40 p.m.

Children taking the school bus will proceed to their buses at 2:40 p.m. where staff will supervise the boarding of the buses. Kindergarten children will be escorted to the bus by our Designated Early Childhood Educators. A reminder that JK students will not take the school bus on the first day of school.

For all other students, they will be dismissed to their caregiver at 2:40 through their exit doors.

We thank everyone for their support!

Mr. Collins

School Council: Inaugural meeting

We are pleased to share that our first School Council meeting will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 7-8:30 p.m. in room 206. Those wishing to serve on the School Council as chair or co-chair, secretary, treasurer, or as an executive member may complete a School Council Nomination Form contained within the School Start-Up Package. It is expected that School Council Executive members attend all regularly scheduled School Council meetings. Please note that there are many parents and guardians who can attend School Council Meetings and who can strongly support School Council events without serving as executive members. Everyone is welcome to attend and support the work of the school.

Part of the meeting will be devoted to sharing information about the role of school councils, norms and our collective work together.

Here are some resources that I will reference :

I look forward to meeting parents and guardians.
