School Start up – End of day dismissal

Next week, we will carefully implement an end of day dismissal routine with our students. Please send a note with your child indicating how they will get home at the end of the day. Should this information change throughout the year please let your child’s homeroom teacher know who will in turn let our office staff know. Your family has three options:

  1. An adult will pick up your child at 2:40 p.m. from school.
  2. Your child will take the school bus home from school.
  3. Your child will attend our Before and After Care program.

Option 1

Our staff will dismiss grade one students at the SW door (Door A) to the adult(s) predetermined by your family. We will continue this process for the first week of school. Starting September 10th, students will dismiss through Door A to meet their adult supervisor on their own. For safety reasons, please do not enter the school to pick up your child.

Rooms 200 and 204 (Grade 3 and grade 2) will exit through Door A as well. Staff will show students where this is on the first day of school. Students in these classes will also meet their adult supervisor outside of door A

Rooms 215-219 (grades 3 and 2/3) will exit through Door B. Staff will show students where this is on the first day of school. Students in these classes will also meet their adult supervisor outside of door B. For safety reasons, please do not enter the school to pick up your child. For safety reasons, please do not enter the school to pick up your child.

FDK classes will exit into the gated FDK yard on the east side of the school. In most cases, the classroom teacher will dismiss students to the adult supervisor at the gates. Please do not enter the fenced area for safety purposes.

Please note that at any time, staff may ask to see identification of the designated supervisors for safety purposes. Any student who is not met by an adult supervisor will be brought to our office and a call will be made to determine how the child is getting home.

Option 2

You can now access to see your child’s stop information. For the first week please allow a 15 minute window before and after the indicated pick up or drop off time as our drivers may need additional time initially. Please note that even if late, the bus is expected to go to it’s designated stops. On Tuesday at 1:45, I will bring all students who take the bus down. We will go over bus expectations, safety rules and group your child(ren) according to their bus numbers. K-3 students are seated at the front of the bus, and paired whenever possible with someone. We will then take each bus group out to their respective buses at 2:40. Buses leave at 2:47 p.m. from the school. The bus drivers will not let your child off the bus unless an adult is there to meet them at the stop. If a child is not met, the drivers are instructed by the bus company to return to the school with your child and then we will contact you. Buses have the numbers of the routes indicated at the front of the bus. A reminder that Year One (JK) students DO NOT take the bus on September 4th but may on September 5th.

Option 3

I met with our Before and After Care supervisors this morning to review end of day procedures. For FDK and grade 1 students, Before and After Care staff will meet the students attending their programs at their classrooms starting at 2:30 and bring them to their B&A rooms. Students in grades 2 and 3 will meet in the multipurpose room 119 at 2:40 both Tuesday and Wednesday to ensure all students are provided with information on routines. Starting Thursday students in grades 1-3 will be in either room 119 or 207. Students in FDK will be in either room 108 or 103. If you require more information from our Child Care providers please contact them at 905-473-1106.

We thank you for your help with our end of day dismissal routines.

Before School

For the first day of school, staff who will work with Kindergarten aged children will meet families in the Kindergarten yard area.

Staff who teach grades 1-3 will be at the back of the school to meet families and pick up students.

If it is raining, we will meet in our gym.

As per our board’s procedure, we ask parents and guardians to say goodbye to their children outside at their entry doors. For Kindergarten students, we ask parents to walk their child to the gates where staff will meet them for entry to the school. During the instructional day, we ask all parents and guardians to use our front door and sign in at our school office.

Please indicate if your child is staying for lunch or going home for lunch on the Book of Forms sheet that will be sent home during the first week of school.

If you are picking your child up for lunch, we ask that you sign in at our school office at noon.

Children staying at our school for lunch will have time to eat and then time outside. We will follow a similar schedule for our Kindergarten classes as we do at recess.

Students will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m. Please provide us with a note for the first day indicating how your child is getting home at the end of the day (i.e Before and After Care program, picked up by an adult or older sibling, or taking the school bus).

Children attending our Before and After Care program will proceed directly to their designated classrooms at 2:40 p.m.

Children taking the school bus will proceed to their buses at 2:40 p.m. where staff will supervise the boarding of the buses. Kindergarten children will be escorted to the bus by our Designated Early Childhood Educators.

For all other students, they will be dismissed to their caregiver at 2:40 through their exit doors.

We thank everyone for their support with our first day!

School Start up: Forms, School Council Guide to the School Year

During the first week of school a book of forms will be coming home. The forms contain important information for you and your child to read and discuss. Please note that since the time of printing, some of the forms have been updated. As such, the new medical forms will be sent home separately. Also coming home will be the YRDSB Guide to the school year that contains information that supports the work across our board. Finally, we welcome parents and guardians to be part of our school council this year. There is a form School Council Nomination available to express your interest. Please note, you do not have to complete this form to attend any meetings. Our inaugural meeting will take place on Thursday September 27, 2018 at 7 p.m. in room 206.
