To our school community,
On Thursday September 28th, after lunch, our school will participate in a Terry Fox Walk to help raise money for cancer research and to recognise a Canadian hero. Our country hosts many Terry Fox walks and runs as do many schools. Information will be sent home to students in hard copy this week including information on how to donate if you choose to. We appreciate everyone’s support. For more information on the various events please see the Terry Fox Foundation website.
This week our school is recognizing World Autism Day with a week’s focus Autism Awareness.
Students and staff will be exploring a variety of activities this week including:
- Blend together – Crayon creating day
- Together Everyone Accomplishes More – Puzzle creation
- You Got A Friend In Me – Friendship bracelets
- Involve Me and I’ll Learn – Collaborative abstract art
- Be “Uniqual” – Style your hair in a unique way, for the Good News Assembly & puzzle piece fundraiser this Friday.
We appreciate the leadership of our Primary Autism Community Class as well as our grade 3 leadership team for helping with the events this week. Their work is part of our ongoing commitment to equity and inclusive practices at our school.
We would like to welcome families to our Family Literacy Evening on February 23, 2017 from 6-7:30 p.m. in our school gym. A fun filled event is planned for families to explore different reading adventures and to read as a family. Flashlights and slippers are welcomed!
Also, we all love a good game of BINGO, but our Discovery Hub loves it even more, with a twist….READO! Back by popular demand, your child can enjoy fun filled reading challenges. Mrs. Mott is so looking forward to seeing all those completed cards. You can even bring it with you to our Family Literacy Night or complete some of the tasks there!
To learn more, be sure to review the notice that was sent home with your child this week. We have included a copy here for your reference as well: family-literacy-2017
