Upcoming Inclusion events at our school

In April, we will be hosting a number of events to help support our work in the areas of inclusion at our school.

This year during the week of April 2nd, our students will have the opportunity to visit a variety of booths that display information about autism, communication disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, as well as hearing and visual impairments. At each booth, students will engage in activities that teach them about the disability, for the purpose of building an understanding and to further develop empathy and inclusion.

We will be having our puzzle piece fundraiser all week. ALL proceeds will go to Autism Ontario to fund research and programs. World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) is a global effort supported by the United Nations that aims to foster greater understanding and inclusion of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in communities around the world. Your child will receive a puzzle piece to decorate with messages of inclusivity and friendship. They will be placed on display, in our front foyer. Come visit our front foyer to see our wall of puzzle pieces grow as our school support grows! With a donation of $2.00 your child’s name will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of several prizes, including magna tiles, a crystal growing kit or a rock painting set.

Donations will be collected from Tuesday April 3rd to Friday, April 6th. The raffle will be drawn on Friday, April 6th. Your support is greatly appreciated.

On Wednesday, April 11th you are invited to join our assembly, beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m., to watch a video slide show celebrating the achievements of Mrs. Abalos’ students and highlighting the inclusivity and acceptance demonstrated by R.M.P.S staff and students. Following the slide show will be a presentation from Unstoppable Tracy, who will share her journey and challenges. Her message is one of perseverance, strength and acceptance. Young and old, we will all be inspired.

Through the week of April 9th, your child will be enriched through dialogue, read alouds and activities, which aim to spread the message of inclusivity, acceptance and support for all.
