A hard copy of this letter was also sent home with all grade 3 students.
The York Region District School Board offers the opportunity for all students in grade three to participate in system wide screening for possible identification as a Gifted student. This year’s grade 3 Gifted screening procedure is a two stage process.
Stage One of the screening will take place between November 24th and December 5th 2014. The students will be given the Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test (CCAT) a test of cognitive abilities (thinking and reasoning skills). It takes approximately 90 minutes to complete all three sections of the test. Each student will complete the test at the same time as their classmates, and will be supervised by a teacher.
Students who score within the top six percent of those being screened on the CCAT will be considered for Stage Two, an intellectual screening with a member of the YRDSB Psychological Services department. If your child qualifies for Stage Two, you will receive a ‘Consent for Intellectual Screening’ form between January 9th and 15th, 2015. Individual screenings will take place in your child’s school between January 19th and 26th, 2015. Brief reports outlining the findings of Stage Two screening will be provided for all students.
Students who meet the YRDSB intellectual criterion on the individual screening will be considered for possible identification as Intellectually Gifted through the Identification, Placement, Review Committee (IPRC) process. Parents/Guardians of those students who meet the criterion will be notified in writing during the second week of February, 2015.
If you do NOT want your child to participate in Stage One of the gifted screening process please inform me in writing by November 20th, 2014.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our school office.
