  1. Unfortunately, I could not attend the meeting due to child care conflicts. I am wondering how the new school will embrace technology. Can you please advise?

    • Thank you for writing. Sorry you could not attend our information session but I look forward to meeting you in the future. I am glad to see you have found our blog.
Great question here and one I sense I will only partially answer here at this time but with a promise to return to it.
The short answer is : We will embrace technology.
A few starting points I am considering:
      1) A vision for technology in the school will be developed. At it’s heart I believe we need to consider how we will purposefully plan for the use of technology in our learning spaces to enhance student learning. We certainly have staff who are keen to explore this deeper.
      2) A plan for resource acquisition. We will have a start up budget for technology. This plan will be a multiyear plan however. We need to carefully consider which technology to purchase. I will be meeting with our purchasing department in the spring to consider this further.
      3) Equity of access. As a team we will need to consider how all students and classes will have access to various technologies in an equitable manner. BYOD (Bring Your Own Devices) is typically a strategy used in the older grades, but a question I am pondering is whether this is a possibility for us to look at.
      4) Staff professional development. It is my intention to put the technology into the hands of staff to use in their programs coupled with professional learning opportunities based on staff interests and learning needs.
      5) A careful exploration of how we can support young learners to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be responsible, creative and thoughtful users of technology. I have been reflecting on the C21 report recently as well which you may also find interesting.

This is an area I would love to explore in greater detail and discuss with our community around their thoughts as well.
Feel free to keep the discussion going here.
Again, thank you for your question.
      I feel a blog post brewing….
      Mr. Collins
